Mason Mount may miss out for England despite being “monitored” by Southgate

Mason Mount went off injured against Ajax in our Champions League game last night, limping with what looked like an ankle problem. Speaking after the game, Frank Lampard revealed that the midfielder had had the joint strapped up, and more would be known today.

This weekend’s game looks like a stretch, even if it’s a very minor problem. And following that is an international break, the perfect chance for Mason to recover.

The Telegraph this evening report that England manager Gareth Southgate is “monitoring” the midfielder after calling him up for the last squad, and will make a decision in the coming week.

We wouldn’t be at all surprised to see Mason miss out this time. His form hasn’t been as good recently, and this injury issue is going to count against him too.

Importantly, as the article mentions, Jack Grealish is also under consideration by Southgate. He missed out last time around, when Mason got the nod, and roles look likely to be reversed this time.
