Mason Mount explains what Jose Mourinho told him to do as a very young player

Jose Mourinho is the talk of football right now after his sensational unveiling at Tottenham last night, so inevitably as a man tied to Chelsea it’s caused plenty of ripples in our sphere too.

One nice little anecdote about Jose at the club comes from Mason Mount, whose 15 minute documentary “The Pride” is out now on the club’s Youtube channel.

It follows young Mason’s story from schoolboy to star at the Bridge, and he has one funny Mourinho anecdote in there.

Of course when the Portuguese was first boss at Chelsea, Mason was still a young kid, often acting as a ballboy with other academy prospects.

“One moment that stands out was under Jose Mourinho,” the midfielder said in quotes carried by Football.London.

“If we were winning in Champions League games then he would tell us to keep hold of the ball and not to throw it back so quickly!”

That really is typical Jose, and we hope that Mason picked up some of those little fragments of gamesmanship and devilry from him.
