Jose Mourinho once rejected Spurs because he loves Chelsea supporters ‘too much’

Today has been a mad old day in the world of football, especially for Chelsea and Tottenham supporters.

If you went to bed early last night, you would would have woken up this morning to the news that Spurs had sacked Mauricio Pochettino, and hired Jose Mourinho as his replacement pretty much over night.

Of course Chelsea supporters have been voicing their views on the situation and many are bemused by it all, a Manager that once said he ‘was Chelsea’, joining their London rivals as Manager, it was a tough pill to swallow.

Mourinho has managed Manchester United of course, but Spurs are a different ball game after a historical rivalry that has been passed down the Chelsea supporting generations.

Back in 2007, Mourinho turned down a chance to manage Spurs, as reported by The Evening Standard.

in 2015, whilst managing Chelsea, he was asked about this situation and if it was true.

He said:

“Yes. I couldn’t go. I couldn’t train in England for two years.”

Asked if he would have taken the job if a deal had been agreed, Mourinho replied:

“No, because I love Chelsea supporters too much. I’m Chelsea.”
