Joe Cole compares Reece James to football’s most famous crosser of the ball

The dust is settling on a crazy 4-4 at Stamford Bridge in the Champions League tonight, and we’re beginning to unpick what actually happened.

Half time feels like an age ago, and it feels like that’s where the madness started – although there had already been 2 own goals at that stage, let’s not forget.

Frank Lampard brought the struggling Marcos Alonso off and replaced him with Reece James, who settled in as a key player straight away. The right back went on to score the equaliser, and Joe Cole, working as a pundit on BT Sport, was full of praise for the teenager:

“When I was playing in America, I came around [to Cobham] to train with the kids. We were having shooting session and the kids’ shooting was erratic, but James was on the money, on the money, whipping crosses, it was like watching Beckham,” Cole said.

We’ve got no doubt of that. His crossing is superb, his shooting is excellent, he gets up and down the pitch at speed and he can defend too.

We honestly think Frank must be planning to start starting him at right back before too long. He just can’t be ignored when he’s in form like this.
