That’s a superb record, given Greaves went on to be a hero for Chelsea and England. Mount is on the right path, that’s for sure. In fact, despite having slowed down a little after a super bright start to the season, he now looks like a real option for Gareth Southgate with Euro 2020 around the corner.
Just like he times his runs into the box well, Mason has expertly timed his run to the England squad. With Gareth Southgate looking for a goalscoring midfielder, and Ross Barkley and Ruben Loftus-Cheek both out with injuries, Mount has sneaked into contention very quickly.
It still looks a tough ask for him to really nail down a starting spot in time, but there’s no question he can do it with more good performances for Frank Lampard’s first team.
