“We’re happy with the way we played” – Chelsea player not concerned despite loss

Fikayo Tomori has echoed the thoughts of most Chelsea fans by saying he was disappointed with the result against Man City on Saturday, but not unhappy with the performance.

The defender had a mixed game at the back, looking a little shaky at times but also impressing with a couple of heavy tackles. His own game was similar to that of the whole team – bright in parts but ultimately not enough to get us over the line.

“We’re happy with the way we played but disappointed with the result,’ was the defender’s verdict. ‘It’s disappointing because we’ve been on a good run and we played well,” he said in quotes picked up on the Chelsea official website.

“We had a few half-chances in the second half but we just couldn’t convert them. They slowed the game down and made it a bit more difficult for us. We tried to up the energy but they’re a good team – they’re the champions for a reason.”

He’s spot on there. By the end of the first half City had turned the game round on us, but there was still a solid 45 minute chunk to play. The problem came later as we struggled mightily to raise the tempo, as Fikayo says.

He’s a defender, so he’s can’t be expected to score the team’s goals, but on the other hand a lack of aggressive passing from him and his central defensive partner Kurt Zouma didn’t help as we looked to take things up a gear.
