“The game has dispensed with the screamers” – BBC pundit’s odd quotes on Chelsea winger

Garth Crooks’ team of the week always generates some interesting talking points, as often for the commentary he makes as for the team itself.

This week there are two Chelsea players involved, as we keep up our good form and thus our consistent presence in his weekly selection.

Willian slots into the midfield 3 (in classic Crooks style), while Christian Pulisic is in the front 3. It’s all rather standard stuff, until you get to the end of his Wilian entry.

“He’s not a screamer either. Thank goodness the game has dispensed with the screamers.”

Ok… Garth… we’re not quite sure what you mean here. Presumably he means screaming literally, as in not making a fuss about the kicks he gets all game. That’s the best explanation we can come up with, but it’s all rather odd. Does he not know that “a screamer” in football is usually used to describe a powerful shot from range?

It’s hard to follow his train of thought sometimes, but you can’t deny his unique and weird style gets the clicks in.
