France boss hints Chelsea striker needs to leave in January if he wants to make Euros

The form of Tammy Abraham has been something of a surprise for many at Chelsea this season, despite being a goal scorer wherever he has been throughout his career.

Many doubted whether he had the ability to do it week in week out at Chelsea in the Premier League.

But the former Aston Villa loanee has been proving everybody wrong so far this season, wearing the number nine, leading the line for Frank Lampard, and scoring goals.

This has had a knock on effect for both Michy Batshuayi, and especially Olivier Giroud.

The French World Cup winner would have hoped he would be pushing to lead the line for Lampard this season, after the club was transfer banned and unable to bring in any extra forwards.

But he has become third choice striker and his place at the Euro’s this summer is now under threat unless his situation improves by March, according to France boss Didier Deschamps.

Giroud is highly unlikely to become a regular at Chelsea now unless a couple of injuries, so the only way he can increase game time by March is to leave the club in January and play solidly for a couple of months.

As reported by The Express, Deschamps said:

“His position is becoming far too uncomfortable.

“I have confidence in him but it is necessary that his personal situation is better in March.

“He needs game time – he needs it. His situation has not been ideal for two months but it is getting worse.

“I hope that I will not have questions to ask myself in March.”
