Former Arsenal man says Chelsea have already taken Spurs’ place at the top

It’s the international break, so plenty of pundits are looking back over the season to this point and working out who has impressed them, and who hasn’t.

After a couple of turbulent years at Chelsea, we find ourselves regularly put in the category of “big winners” from the season so far. We’ve outdone everyone’s expectations, and pretty much everything has gone our way up to this point.

Tottenham on the other hand, have gone the other direction. After reaching the Champions League final last May, they spent big in the summer and many were expecting them to push on and compete for trophies on all fronts.

However they have collapsed, and we’ve slipped into the space they’ve left behind. In quotes carried by the Daily Express, Lee Dixon piped up to say the following:

“This thing that Frank Lampard’s doing, this is a proper project,” the former Arsenal man said.

“I think the Tottenham one’s broken, I really do. I don’t think that’s, with what’s going on at Tottenham, I think that’s done and dusted as far as that project’s concerned.”

“[Chelsea] is the next one and it’s fascinating because of the restrictions he’s got in the transfer market, the emergence of this new manager in the Premier League, the players he’s got at his disposal,” Dixon concluded.

That is high praise from a ex-Gunner, and we’re rubbing our hand with glee not only because Frank’s star is rising, but also because we’re taking the space of Poch’s Spurs in the constellations.
