“I follow him” – Fabio Capello reveals he’s tracking Frank Lampard’s career – and he’s very impressed

Fabio Capello got quite a bad rap as England manager.

Despite arriving with a quite incredible CV to be the Three Lions first ever foreign manager, the Italian tactician became a bit of a joke at times, and ended up resigning on the eve of a European Championships.

Now he’s back in his home country, speaking in his own language, and the wounds have healed a little over this side, it’s clear that he talks a lot of sense as a pundit.

His latest quotes are on the subject of Frank Lampard, a man whom he coached as a player for England, and one he predicts bright things for as a manager. Asked whether he saw Lamps as England boss one day, Capello replied:

“I don’t know. Probably… because he can do it. He understands everything and has started without fear and put young players on the pitch.”

“I follow him. I watch all the games and I was upset when he started the season and he lost two games and the team didn’t play well.

“Now, the results are good and the position is really good and without the [transfer] market,” he glowed in comments picked up by the Daily Mail.

We’re well up for a Lamps spell in charge of England, but only once he’s racked up a good decade or so with us. His career is only just starting, there’s plenty of time for all this in the future.
