Emerson can still show Lampard that he doesn’t need Chilwell

Emerson Palmieri has been very good for Chelsea this season when fit, beating out Marcos Alonso for the first team slot in preseason, and then a second time a month ago when returning from a frustrating injury.

That hasn’t stopped endless rumours about Ben Chilwell coming in as a huge money signing this summer, a massive investment which would displace Emerson despite his good form.

A January move still looks unlikely, even if the ban is lifted, just because Leicester will hold strong, meaning Emerson will have the rest of the season to take his form to the next level and prove that Lampard doesn’t need to invest any more in that area.

It won’t be easy, as Chilwell is shining in an outstanding attacking Leicester team. But barring injury, Emerson too has the setup to succeed, and he has enough games left to overwhelmingly show that he’s a top class option in that position.
