Didier Deschamps risking the wrath of Frank Lampard once again

France Manager Didier Deschamps has called up three Chelsea players in his latest squad for the next round of Euro 2020 qualifiers.

Two of them we fully expected to see in the shape of Kurt Zouma and Olivier Giroud, but he has also selected N’Golo Kante, who actually hasn’t fully returned to the pitch yet after getting injured on international duty the last time around.

But Kante was on the bench against Ajax for Chelsea on Tuesday, and apparently this means he is fine to be in the France squad again, when really what he probably could do with is a longer rest over the international break, as that would benefit Deschamps as much as Frank Lampard.

I’m sure Lampard will have something to say about this tomorrow in his pre-match press conference for a game that Kante is likely to make a return in and start the game in place of the suspended Jorginho.

Deschamps has been speaking about it to the media, as reported by The Daily Mail.

He said:

“I haven’t spoken to him [Lampard]. Kante has taken time to recover, he was back in training last week, in their squad for the Champions League.

“He is back to full fitness. If a player is available for his club, it is normal that they be part of this squad.”
