Chelsea’s historical pursuit of Sergio Aguero was not backed by John Terry

Before Sergio Aguero joined Manchester City, he was very close to becoming a Chelsea player.

Back in 2009 current Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti was asked about Chelsea’s pursuit of a then 21-year old Aguero, in which he said that he liked the player, and he thought he could play alongside Didier Drogba.

Aguero was playing for Atletico Madrid at the time and was becoming a sought after talent.

Chelsea were making moves in the transfer market and were looking for the next big thing. They faced Atletico in Europe and Chelsea captain John Terry didn’t think much of Aguero.

In fact, as reported by The Athletic, Terry wasn’t a huge fan of Aguero’s abilities and passed that opinion on to the hierarchy at Chelsea.

Terry wasn’t overly impressed by Aguero’s movement and preferred players like David Villa instead.

Aguero went on to sign for City and of course the rest is history!
