Why Chelsea want new striker despite Tammy’s great form

Chelsea have a red hot striker in Tammy Abraham right now, but that doesn’t mean they can stop looking around for the next generation.

No matter how good the form of our number 9 is, we still have to keep ensuring that the production line is rolling on. Staying still is falling behind, and you can be sure that our scouts are working harder than ever.

The Sun today claim that one player we’re looking at is Habib Diallo of Metz.

The 24 year old has had a real breakout season, scoring 8 goals in 13 games and looking like a deadly penalty box finisher. We’ve got three strikers on our books now, but there’s no telling how long Michy Batshuayi and Olivier Giroud will be sticking around. In fact, we wouldn’t be surprised to see both leave over the next two transfer windows.

Giroud has been linked with a move to Inter Milan, while Batshuayi’s playing time has been so limited for so many seasons now that he surely must be ready for a permanent move away.

So while it seems odd that we’re chasing new players for a team that’s doing so well, it does make sense, and a move for Diallo this summer, once our ban has expired, would be no surprise.
