Chelsea reportedly tried to sign Napoli right back but seem unlikely to return this summer

Chelsea offered £43m for Napoli right back Elseid Hysaj when Maurizio Sarri was manager, according to the player’s agent.

The Daily Mail are among the English sources reporting the rumours from Italy that say that Sarri wanted his former player when he was manager.

We’re well stocked at right back at the moment, so we can’t see us going back for him, even though he’s available on a free this summer, according to that same report in the Mail.

Reece James and Cesar Azpilicueta make up just about the best right back tandem in the league right now, and you wouldn’t expect Frank Lampard to want to do anything to disturb that succession.

Hysaj may be a good player, but it looks unlikely he ends up coming to Chelsea now. A more likely target from his team is Kalidou Koulibaly, the central defender who looks absolutely world class at times.
