Chelsea “could” recall star loan player in January – but they won’t

The Sun are exclusively reporting that Chelsea “have the option” to recall Conor Gallagher from his loan.

“There is a break clause in the deal meaning the Blues could call him back when the transfer window opens,” says the tabloid.

We’re not sure why that really matters – why on earth would we recall him? He’s absolutely dominating the Championship with Charlton, in what is proving to be perhaps the most successful loan of the lot.

Why uproot him now and return him to sit on the bench, or play for the youth team again?

Certainly he’s massively upgraded his chances of coming back to play for us next season, but the best thing he can do to help his chances is stay exactly where he is.

There may well be a clause to return him, but the only feasible way we can see us using that is to return him and loan him to a Premier League team. But that is far fetched. We would be stunned if he’s not still at the Valley come May, very possibly leading the Addicks to the playoffs.
