Chelsea ready to replace Marcos Alonso with England full back

Chelsea are working on summer move that will ‘almost certainly’ see current left back Marcos Alonso leave the club, according to a report from reliable Telegraph journalist Matt Law.

Law believes that Chelsea are interested in signing Leicester City left back Ben Chilwell in the summer transfer window, meaning he would come in to replace Alonso.

The Spaniard is likely to continue playing second fiddle to Emerson in the Chelsea first team, and he is likely to fall even further down the pecking order after academy graduate Reece James’s recent performances.

Cesar Azpilicueta was moved to left back and Alonso was bought off for James after a terrible 45 minutes on Tuesday night in the Champions League, showing that his place is truly under threat, even as a backup.

England left back Chilwell is a player who is being linked with Chelsea recently and may well be interested in working with Frank Lampard at Stamford Bridge.
