We look set to pay a staggering figure for the England international, just as we looked set to pay a staggering figure for Luke Shaw back in 2014.
In the end, Chelsea baulked at the prices and Man U got Shaw. It’s not a deal that has worked out for either party really, and he’s been a flop in comparison to how good people thought he could be, and the money they paid.
Chilwell looks better and more mature than Shaw, less dependent on a burst of speed. But we must still heed the warnings of the past when it comes to situations like this.
