Chelsea legend reveals he turned down Chelsea coaching offer

The Chelsea revolution took place over the summer and it is something that continues. The Blues have, and are bringing back former players to work at the club, a club that they will always hold an affection for.

Obviously this was lead by the return of legend Frank Lampard, who is joined by Jody Morris. But the likes of Joe Cole and Ashley Cole have also attained coaching roles back at Chelsea, and there will be more.

One of those expected to return as a coach was former Blues striker and club legend Didier Drogba.

Many believed he would come back in to be part of Lampard’s coaching staff over the summer, but it did not happen, and he wanted to focus his time on a bid to become the next president of the Ivorian FA.

The man himself has a special place in the hearts of Chelsea fans and he has been opening up about the ‘perfect offer’ he received from Chelsea, but why he could not take it.

As reported by The Metro, Drogba said:

“I had an offer to stay at Chelsea where everything would be perfect and conditions are met.

“But I want to help Ivorian football because I love it!’

“I am a leader, and my vision is bigger than just the simple role of being a coach.

“A coach has an impact on a club – but I want to have an impact on an entire nation.

“I want us to re-think football, with a nationwide vision, so we can develop the game here. The Ivory Coast has a glorious footballing past.”
