Chelsea are ‘hopeful’ transfer ban will be lifted and when we can expect a verdict

Chelsea’s legal team will be in Switzerland tomorrow to attend the appeal hearing of the clubs transfer ban at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

The Blues are banned as it stands from signing players over the age of 16 until the summer, after FIFA found them to be breaking regulations, which Chelsea have denied.

If CAS accepts Chelsea’s appeal, they can overturn the transfer ban and allow Chelsea to sign players again in January.

According to The Athletic, Chelsea are hopeful that they will win their appeal and the ban will be overturned.

Chelsea fans will not hear of the outcome tomorrow though, or even within the next few weeks, with the same publication believing it will be in a month when a verdict will be delivered.

Chelsea’s lawyers have built up a case and Chelsea will re-visit their arguments over what constitutes a “trialist”, and what qualifies as “organised football” – both key elements of the defence originally put to FIFA by Chelsea’s defence team.

It will be interesting to see how this unfolds.
