Blues winger still on Barcelona’s radar says reliable Chelsea journalist

Willian has revealed that Barcelona made an approach to sign him in 2018 that was rejected by Chelsea, as reported by Goal.

Goal states that Willian, speaking to ‘Saudade’, a DAZN exclusive series on Brazilian’s playing abroad, admitted that Barcelona was the only offer that he received.

He said:

“The only real official offer I had came from Barcelona, last year, after the World Cup.

“Barcelona indeed presented an offer to Chelsea but it was rejected.

“That was the only actual time I had to discuss something like this with my family, although we really love it here (London). So there were several factors that helped us in staying.”

Goal’s Chelsea correspondent continued to admit that the Chelsea winger is still on the Barcelona radar, in light of his contract situation at Stamford Bridge.

Willian will be free to speak to other clubs in January, if he has still not signed a new contract with Chelsea.

With only two months to go, it is looking unlikely that the two parties will agree a new contract extension, and The Blues will have to decide whether to try and get some money for him in January, or let him leave on a free in the summer.

It seems that whatever happens, Barcelona will be an interested party watching on!
