Wales boss to visit Germany for a ‘conversation’ about the ‘progress’ of Ethan Ampadu

Chelsea defender Ethan Ampadu is yet to make an appearance for RB Leipzig since completing a loan move there from Chelsea this summer.

The 19-year old has made the bench for the Bundesliga side, but with the midway point in the season approaching in a couple of months, Ampadu’s only senior appearance so far this season was a run out for Wales last month.

This is concerning for Chelsea and Frank Lampard, but also a big concern for Wales manager Ryan Giggs.

Giggs is a big admirer of Ampadu and see’s him as an important member of his squad. But the former Manchester United winger has admitted that he is worried about the match fitness of Amapdu due to his lack of playing time this season.

He’s so concerned that he plans to travel to Germany after the international break in order to have a conversation with Ampadu regarding his progress this season.

As reported by Wales Online, Giggs said:

“It’s a concern because Ethan is at the age now where he needs to play.

“I’m going to go and see Ethan after this camp because obviously the Red Bull model is an interesting one. But I will have a conversation about his progress.

“He’s had a few problems there injury-wise, nothing serious but little aches and pains.

“The last few camps he’s looked so much better in training. He is such a talent it’s hard to ignore. But it’s very difficult for him to play 90 minutes and back-to-back games, because he’s not had the minutes.”
