“There’s a lot more to come” – Frank Lampard bigs up Pulisic impact

Frank Lampard praised a number of his players after a hard fought victory over Newcastle at Stamford Bridge this afternoon, but it was Christian Pulisic who got the greatest number of kind words.

He wasn’t the best player on the pitch, and in fact he only joined as a late substitute. But his tricky situation, failing to get minutes at all while the American media peers over his neck, means that he was a natural pick for some extra praise.

Frank Lampard glowed over his second half sub in quotes picked up by the Evening Standard:

“I’m really pleased for him. He’s a hot topic because of the price tag. Because of his status in his national team, and his world status through that. And everyone has got a little bit carried away with the short term,” Lampard said.

“The long term is that he’s come here and he’s just turned 21 and to see him play like he did today, and there’s a lot more to come,” he went on.

“It’s not the end of the story. You can see his balance and awareness and you can see how he can play.”

Lampard is well served to praise the youngster who looked emotional when he was subbed for the US in midweek. Our manager has promised to keep giving him chances, and if he impresses like he did today as a sub, there’s no reason he can’t be a big hit.
