Steve Bruce reveals plans for Chelsea fixture

Steve Bruce has confirmed that Matty Longstaff, the hero of Newcastle’s win over Man U two weeks ago, will play against Chelsea this weekend.

His quotes make his team selection very clear:

“How could I leave him out? You can imagine what the kid’s been like, he’s been like a kid in a sweet shop. It’s been quite refreshing for all of us to witness the interview (after the Man United game). He beamed out of the television,” the Magpies manager said on quotes carried on the Northern Echo.

It’s hard to say whether that’s good of bad for us. He certainy added a lot of energy and bite to Bruce’s midfield in the last game, as well as a well taken goal.

Whether or not his team keeps up that momentum away from home against us remains to be seen, but it will be interesting to see how this talented teenager gets on.

His older brother Sean was linked to Manchester United in the summer – could bigger clubs come in for Matty too?
