“I have spoken with him and he has trained with us”- Marc Guehi explains what it’s like learning from the very best

The generation of Chelsea academy players currently breaking into the first team, including Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham, Callum Hudson-Odoi and the rest, are doing incredibly well, and earning massive praise from Chelsea fans and neutral pundits alike.

So successful are they that they’re distracting from some of the next generation coming through – which is probably a good thing. One of those top prospects one step behind these guys is Marc Guehi, the centre back who started against Grimsby in the cup.

He’s been speaking to the Independent, about how he’s been getting advice from John Terry behind the scenes:

“He was a captain and leader at Chelsea all his life,” he said. “I think he was underrated when it came to playing out with both feet,” Guehi said.

“He was a great leader, a great defender and someone I definitely look up to. I have spoken with him and he has trained with us a few times.”

We love the sound of that. JT always lead by example on the field, and the kind of experience he can bring to these young players is unmatched. It’s just a shame he’s working with Aston Villa at the moment.

As a player, Guehi is close to the finished product at youth level, and a loan must surely be on the cards so that he can put what he’s learned from the Chelsea legend into action properly in competitive football.
