Spanish talent reveals Chelsea made a January bid for him – but were knocked back by Mourinho

Pedro Leon has been speaking on Spanish radio about his time at Real Madrid, and the 32 year old has revealed in 2011 Chelsea made a January offer for him.

In a wide ranging interview he covered a lot of topics, including the “sliding doors” moment where he wasn’t allowed to leave the club when he wanted to.

Jose Mourinho was the Real manager at the time, and he refused to allow the then young talent to leave the club. Leon had signed for the Spanish giants in the summer, but had struggled for minutes, and Chelsea were looking to pick him up on the sly 6 months later.

It didn’t work out for anyone, with Mourinho keeping him but not playing him, Chelsea not getting their man and Leon kicking his heels all year on the bench.

He went on to have a good career, and he’s been a Primera Liga player ever since, but who knows what might have happened had he made the switch to the Premier League. His career could have been so different.
