Petr Cech has signed for the Guildford Phoenix, an ice hockey team based near Chelsea’s Cobham training ground, as a “goaltender.”
We’re not even sure whether we believe this, or whether it’s some kind of hoax, but according to the team’s official Twitter (well, as official as you can be with 667 followers) the Chelsea sporting director is going to make his debut on Sunday.

It’s all rather odd, but we think we believe it so far. Certainly he was a fan growing up in the Czech Republic, and he’s got the right skills for it. It’s hardly a high profile sport in this country, but it sounds like it’s his real passion.
He’s our sporting director… but why not take off an afternoon now and then to shoot some puck, or whatever they say.
Given we’ve got a transfer ban at the moment, he’s not got much on anyway. This sounds like a good way to let off some steam.
