Who needs Hazard – Chelsea spread the goals around with 4 scorers and 4 assisters in 90 minutes

Chelsea have been a one man team plenty of times in the past, not least in the last couple of seasons when the dependence on Eden Hazard to make things happen in tight games became chronic.

This season, with no Hazard, things were either going to get very tough, or we were going to see a spreading round of the creative work. So far it’s been the latter, and there was no better evidence of that then this weekend.

Frank Lampard’s freescoring Blues rattled in 4 goals, scored by 4 different scorers. All four goals were assisted by 4 different assisters, none of them scorers.

So 8 players contributed to the 4 goals. A left back, a defensive midfielder, a box to box midfielder, a target man, a super sub striker and all three wingers who featured chipped in.

Now don’t get us wrong, we would take Hazard back in a heartbeat. But it can only be healthy for this team to grow of its own accord, without the Belgian there to save them every week.
