Mason Mount pushing to take this England starter’s spot as soon as this week

Mason Mount is pushing to start ahead of Ross Barkley for England, according to this report in the Telegraph.

Matt Law, who is well connected at Chelsea, says that Gareth Southgate is a big fan of the midfielder and has been impressed by his impact this season in the Premier League – well, it would be hard not to be.

The England manager has shown great willingness to play young players the moment they impress in the top flight, and he’s turned over the team quickly with youngsters like Mount.

Barkley was one of those type of talents not long ago, and while his performances for his country have kept him in favour, it seems his less impressive club form, where he watches Mason from the bench mostly, is affecting Southgate’s thinking.

We would take Mount every time. Let’s see what the Three Lions coach thinks in the upcoming games which see them both feature in the squad, along with Tammy Abraham and Fikayo Tomori.
