Marcos Alonso has impressive 26% goal contributions after 100 games at Chelsea

Marcos Alonso is only just back in the Chelsea team, but he’s already racking up some impressive numbers.

Opta Joe posted the following Tweet after Chelsea’s third goal, which saw the left back rampage forward in his typical style, before picking out N’Golo Kante to bang in a deflected shot.

That’s better than a 1/4 goal involvement per game, a pretty astonishing figure for a player who is a defender, nominally. Those are the kind of stats you would expect from the top full backs in the league, like Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold at Liverpool.

After some shocking games last season and at the start of this campaign the Spaniard has lost his starting place to Emerson Palmieri. But since the Italian went down injured, Alonso has filled in capably, and this latest assist just goes to show how influential he can be when he was momentum.

These kind of numbers are what we like to see from our defenders. Go out and add some more, Marcos!
