“He’ll get games” – Frank Lampard pleased with fringe players attitude

Frank Lampard has a good problem at Chelsea. A problem that many other coaches in this league can only dream of. He has good players that he is struggling to get game time for to right now.

This is due to players in front of them playing and training very well at the moment and are impossible to drop.

Tammy Abraham in particular is the Blues and Premier League’s top goal scorer so far this season and he is playing well.

He is leaving Michy Batshuayi and Olivier Giroud wondering whether they will ever get a chance to play.

Abraham took the number 9 shirt at the start of the season with confidence and he hasn’t looked back since, taking his opportunity with every available limb!

This has left a rather frustrated figure in French World Cup winner Olivier Giroud. He has recently mentioned that he cannot accept being a backup striker at this stage of his career, but he has remained professional throughout.

Frank Lampard though, believes Giroud will get his chances soon.

Speaking to the Chelsea website, he said:

“I’ve had a good chat with Ollie before he went away. I always respect all the players, particularly players his age – I was at that low thirties age and I love his professionalism.

“It was bang on when he spoke to me and bang on with his quotes when he was away with France.

“He shouldn’t be happy and accept not playing – that’s what good players do. I think, as I said to Ollie, he’ll get his games and be a big influence for us.

“At the moment, because of the way Tammy’s playing, there haven’t been so many minutes. I would happily sit down with Ollie in January, but that’s a long way away, so we’ll see.”
