Frank Lampard explains why he has to keep the same team

Frank Lampard has been speaking to the press after Chelsea’s win over Burnley, and the manager explained his reasoning for picking almost the same team three games in a row.

Chelsea have won 7 games on the spin now, and the reasoning is obvious – don’t change a winning team.

In quotes picked up by Football.London, the Chelsea boss explained that he was really in no position to mix things up too much.

” I have a good squad and obviously you need to keep people happy in the squad. The first thing is results and I think the momentum recently means that there has not been many changes, only a few here and there,” the manager said after a game where his only change – introducing Christian Pulisic for Callum Hudson-Odoi, lead to a hattrick from the American.

“When the moments come players need to stay fit and ready and support the team when not playing. It’s not nice and it’s a hard part of my job telling people they aren’t playing,” he went on.

It can’t be easy, but then again how can the players complain when the team is winning? The competition for minutes is amazingly fierce considering we haven’t been able to sign anyone and lost our star player in the summer.

As long as Lamps keeps making the calls as perfectly as he has so far, nobody is going to have any complaints, even those guys on the bench.
