“We do fancy our chances” – Newcastle captain confident of victory over Chelsea

Newcastle United captain Jamaal Lascelles believes his side have a good chance of getting a victory over Frank Lampard’s Chelsea on Saturday.

Lascelles believes the Chelsea side lack experience, and is taking the momentum off the back of victory over Manchester United to draw belief that they can get a result against The Blues.

Chelsea are the away side in the 3pm kick off so The Magpies will be hoping to use home advantage in their attempts to get all three points.

Lampard is off the back of a 4 game winning streak though and they are building some momentum of their own. Players are hitting some good form and they will certainly be looking to come away with no less than a win.

Lascelles was a Chelsea target not so long ago according to multiple reports at the time, including this one from The Evening Standard, so he will be hoping to impress his former admirers once again.

Speaking to the Newcastle website, Lascelles said:

“They’re a young side with not much experience in there. We’ve been working really hard this week and we’re looking forward to it. It’s going to be a tough game but we do fancy our chances.

“We’re still going off the last game. We beat Man United at home and there’s no reason why we can’t beat Chelsea.

“We’ve still got the confidence from the last game and hopefully we can go and do the same job.

“Over the course of the season, the games we have been losing to teams like Norwich, we need to sort that out but it gives us confidence that we can beat these big teams and playing Chelsea at the weekend, we are full of confidence going into that.

“The manager has drilled into us about a game plan. Both times against those teams, it has worked. It’s about sticking to the game plan and giving it our all.

“Both of those games, we were fiery and really passionate.”
