Emerson likely to ignore pull of Juventus and sign new Chelsea contract

Chelsea left wing back Emerson has an offer to renew his contract, according to Sky Italy reports quoted here in English on Sport Witness.

The left back enjoyed a really strong start to the season for Frank Lampard, getting heavily involved on the left side of the new manager’s team. His influence was clear through the early part of the season, but he was taken out of action by an injury during the last international break, and a return proved to be premature.

It’s not clear how long this second absence will be for, but it will be significant. It gives him time to sort out this new deal, which SportWitness say he is “considering”.

Why not sign now? Well there’s transfer interest from abroad according to the same report. Maurizio Sarri wants to take him to Turin to join Juventus. But would that be a wise move for him? He’s just broken into the first team properly, and was in such good form too. It would be a real risk to jump ship now, especially to a Juve team who already  have Alex Sandro in that position.

Perhaps a swap for Sandro could be on the cards? Stranger things have happened. But for now, consider it likely he signs this new deal, and hopefully returns in good form for the rest of the season.
