We knew it was happening from last night, but now it’s official: Mason Mount makes his debut for England tonight against the Czech Republic.
It marks the completion of a stunning rise to to the top for the 20 year old. Two years ago he started the season sitting on the bench at Vitesse, a youngster looking for his first chance in men’s football.
After an impressive season there, and smooth transition to the Championship the following year with Derby, he’s taken his chance with Chelsea in the Premier League this season. There’s no reason to doubt he will do well for England too.

This chance comes at the expense of Ross Barkley, whom he has replaced for Chelsea too. The excellent goal threat that Mason brings just can’t be ignored, and his work rate and dynamism will be a huge draw for Gareth Southgate too.
Nothing has been able to slow him down yet. Are you backing the Czech team to manage it?
