Chelsea’s lack of creativity no problem as they brush aside Southampton

Chelsea beat Southampton comfortably in the end at the weekend, putting 3 first half goals into the opposition’s net which almost killed the game, and then adding a fourth late on.

There was no lack of goals, although the Blues did lack a little creativity according to the stats.

A lot of the passing was deep and horizontal, as you can tell from the fact that all our defenders are up among the players with the most touches. There was only one through ball played all game and it wasn’t until the last 5 minutes, when Christian Pulisic slipped it through for Michy Batshuayi to add the fourth.

There were just 11 key passes all game, with Willian the clear creative hub, and to beat a better team we will need more finesse than that – but as long as we’re scoring freely like we are now, the only stat we have to worry about is the score.
