Chelsea set to compete in revamped World Cup competition for domestic clubs

Chelsea are one of the English teams being talked about who will be competing in a revamped World Cup competition for domestic clubs, according the The New York Times.

They say that FIFA plan to hold the first revised Club World Cup in China in 2021.

It will consist over 24 teams around the World and as well as Chelsea, they mention Liverpool, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid being involved.

The new quadrennial event will replace the Confederations Cup. It also will mean the demise of the Club World Cup as an annual event.

They say that FIFA have declined to comment further on the plans at the moment but more information will come out soon.

It will be an interesting event that’s for sure, like a summer version of the Champions League.

If the rumours are true, Chelsea and Liverpool may well be making plans to head to China very soon.
