Ashley Cole back at Chelsea in new role

It’s been a long time coming, but a new member of Chelsea’s greatest teams has been appointed to the club’s staff.

Ashley Cole has been seemingly on the verge of a proper role for a while now, working in an ambassadorial role with the club but keeping up a playing career.

Now he’s retired, he can go full time into coaching, and that’s exactly what the club’s official website announced today.

“I’ve started with the Under-15s and been back for two months now,” the 38-year-old told the club site.

“I’m working predominantly with Frank O’Brien, who has been here for many years. He’s seen a lot of these players currently in the first team come through the ranks so he’s definitely been very influential so far.”

It’s always great to have the old boys back, and we absolutely love the staff that Frank Lampard is building up behind the scenes. The structure for long term success really looks like it’s being put in place.

Cole’s work will start with the younger age groups, but as he gains his badges and more experience, it will be no surprise to see him rise through the ranks.
