Willian opens up about his best friend leaving Chelsea this summer

David Luiz moved from Chelsea and joined Arsenal on transfer deadline this summer, in a move that surprised many.

The Brazilian was in his second spell at Stamford Bridge and was expected to remain one of the key squad members under Frank Lampard, as he had been in previous seasons.

But he decided to jump ship and join one of Chelsea’s London rivals, and the rest is history.

Blues fans haven’t dwelt on the move and have been enjoying recent performances from youngster Fikayo Tomori, an opportunity that perhaps may not have arisen if it wasn’t for Luiz leaving.

One player who will be missing the Brazilian more than most is his fellow countryman Willian, who has been describing the situation as ‘strange’.

The two are best friends in football and have grown together after playing for club and country.

Willian has been speaking to Goal about the situation.

He said:

“David and I are very close. We are very good friends. He is one of the best friends that I have in football. It is strange to see him wearing red, but we are friends.

“Now we have to play against each other and I have to do something against him. Yes, of course I will celebrate hard if I score against Arsenal.”
