Oh dear, oh dear.
After VAR awarded Chelsea a late penalty against Valencia, Ross Barkley stepped up to the mark… and blazed over the crossbar.
Even with Jorginho on the pitch, the man who is actually our penalty taker, Barkley grabbed the ball and insisted to his teammates that he would be taking it.
Nobody had the cojones to warn him against it, so Barkley proceeded to place the ball on the spot, step back, and lift it over the crossbar, all but sealing our defeat.

While we somewhat admire Barkley’s confidence in his own penalty taking ability, perhaps it would have been wise for someone to step in here and help him see sense.
Jorginho has a superb penalty record, thus we really do not see the logic in allowing anyone but him to take the penalty at such a key stage of the contest.
Lampard ought to give him the hairdryer treatment in the dressing room…
