ESPN were talking about Christian Pulisic this week – no surprise there, and asking whether Mason Mount’s bright start to the season was bad news for the American, because it made him look bad in comparison. They also suggested that one might replace the other in the team once more senior players come back to fill up starting spots.
Obviously there’s no need for the two to compete. Mason Mount will end up playing as an 8 or a 10, while Pulisic is a classic winger. It’s only been the squeezing in of Mason into the team onto the left wing that has caused any crossover at all. Once Mount has fully confirmed he’s the number one choice in the middle of the park that clash will be removed, and they can focus on playing together
