Billy Gilmour has signed a new long-term contract with Chelsea, which is great, but @ChelseaYouth on Twitter believes that there could be an explanation for it that we’d rather not have known about.
Gilmour was involved for Chelsea during pre-season and made the match day squad for our UEFA Super Cup clash with Liverpool, with the Scotsmen having to watch us lose from the sidelines.
He had to wait until our Premier League matchday four clash with Sheffield United to get his debut, but we’re certain that it was worth the wait for the 18-year-old, stepping out at Stamford Bridge.
He has subsequently been rewarded with a new long-term Chelsea contract – or has he? @ChelseaYouth believes that it could have been automatically triggered after he took to the field.
There's a chance this was triggered by him making a first-team debut but it's great news regardless.

Regardless, we have his future secured, which is the main thing. We can happily remain ignorant to it and assume that this is just further evidence of Chelsea’s trust in their younger players.
