Tammy Abraham would have had a chance at Chelsea despite the ban, believes Lampard

Frank Lampard believes that striker Tammy Abraham would have gotten his chance to play at Chelsea this season, whether the club were transfer banned or not.

The Blues manager believes that even if they could have bought in another striker, the time was right for Abraham to be given opportunities at Chelsea now.

Having been at the club since 2004, the 21-year old has come up through the youth ranks and after a few impressive loan spells, has earned his chance in the first team.

With Abraham finally getting his chance this season, he has literally grabbed it with every possible limb available and absolutely smashed the opportunity.

The England international has scored 7 goals in his last 3 matches for the Blues and got his first hat-trick on Saturday in the 5-2 victory at Wolves.

Lampard has once again been praising his number 9 and believes he will get even better.

As reported by Sky Sports, he said:

“I never had clear expectations for him, only the fact that I believed in him and trusted him.

“I know a lot has been made of the ban, giving young players potential opportunities, but I felt the time was right for Tammy to have his opportunity at this club anyway, because of the quality he has got.

“I’m really delighted he has got his goals, I think there’s even more to come. He’s in a good place that requires him to sustain and improve even more. With his mentality I hope to see that.”
