A stat shown during last night’s Match of the Day programme serves as evidence of Frank Lampard’s unparalleled faith in Chelsea’s youngsters.
Some would argue that Lampard has had no choice but to utilise our youngsters this season, with Chelsea being unable to make signings during the summer transfer window.
However, he has had a choice, and he made the right decision. He ousted David Luiz to accommodate younger models, with Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham also being given frequent opportunities ahead of their seniors.
Lampard is giving the youngsters the chances that they deserve, and we have not seen anything like this for some time. Just how long it has been has been demonstrated in the below video, which was aired as part o the MOTD programme last night…

It’s quite incredible to think that we are on matchday five and this season already stands head and shoulders above the others in terms of minutes being given to U21s.
