Mason Mount taken off injured 15 minutes into Chelsea’s Champions League opener

Mason Mount has been substituted for Chelsea just 15 minutes into their opening Champions League game against

The midfielder took a heavy blow in a tackle from Coquelin and tried to play on, but eventually the obvious discomfort he was feeling was too much, and the midfielder was taken off to be replaced by Pedro.

It’s a massive blow to Frank Lampard’s team, not only in this Champions League match, but also potentially for this weekend and beyond. It didn’t look terrible, or like a twist, but it could be a bruised or – God forbid – broken metatarsal.

Hopefully it’s just a knock and he’s just not risking it. He’s a vital player, and it will be a massive ask to win against a dominant Liverpool without his goalscoring abilities and his willingness to lead the press.

There are good players to fill in for him, and this may end up being Christian Pulisic’s return to the first team.
