Latest update on Mason Mount injury brings relief to Chelsea fans but he’s still very unlikely to play against Liverpool

The latest news about Mason Mount’s ankle injury has been released, and Chelsea fans can let out a sigh of relief.

Football.London report that the midfielder has had a scan which revealed there had been so ligament damage, although the fact it was bad enough for him to be scanned tells its own story.

As it is there’s no reason he can’t be back for this weekend in theory, should his recovery go well. It would be a major risk to play him however, even if he does feel ready, and we expect Frank Lampard to give him a week off.

While he will be a big miss against Liverpool, he’s proving to be too integral to risk. We’ve suffered so much this summer from the setbacks that N’Golo Kante and Antonio Rudiger have suffered in their recoveries, it would be crazy to risk another such situation developing.

Then again he’s young and was even fit to play on after he got the knock last night – maybe there is a chance after all?
