“A slight surprise” – Lampard did not know Chelsea starlet was capable of wonder-strike

Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard has joked that even he did not realise that Fikayo Tomori had Saturday’s wonder-goal in his locker, report Football London.

Lampard spent last season with Tomori at Derby County, having made his move to secure the Chelsea academy product’s services for the duration of the 2018/19 campaign.

You’d think that he would be familiar with the bulk of the youngster’s capabilities having spend such a great deal of time working with him, but Tomori is still surprising Frank.

Lampard revealed following yesterday’s 5-2 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers that he was not aware the 21-year-old had his stunning first Chelsea goal in his locker.

He’s quoted by Football London saying:

“I know he’s comfortable to do that from having him last year, although I didn’t know he could stick it in the top corner. That was a slight surprise!”

We’re not expecting to see this from Tomori on a regular basis, but what a great moment it was for him, to score his first ever goal for Chelsea in such style.

Let’s hope that he continues to surprise Frank all season, even if it won’t always be with goals of this calibre…
