“I’m asking for different things” – Frank Lampard remains patient whilst changing the style of play

Chelsea threw away a 2-0 half time lead at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, to end up drawing the match 2-2 against newly promoted Sheffield United.

This has sparked cause for concern amongst some Chelsea supporters, who have seen their side win just one Premier League match in the opening four games.

Frank Lampard has seen mixed performances from his side so far and despite playing well and controlling matches in long periods, the concern is how quick his players can change and concede goals.

The style of football he is asking his team to play is not too dissimilar to what they were learning last season under Maurizio Sarri.

Sarri liked to enjoy more possession, but also wants to be moving the ball fast and transition those moves to attacks.

Lampard though, feels that he needs to have patience with his players, who are learning a slightly different style of play under him.

Speaking to the Chelsea website, he said:

“I have to be patient because I’m asking for different things in the way we play and our movement of the ball.

“We needed to move the ball quicker because we were taking too much time in possession. We had worked a lot on Sheffield United and their style of play, how we could move the ball to cause them problems but we didn’t do it as I wanted us to do it.

“That was the contributing factor to me feeling we were a bit slow in possession and that gave them opportunities.

“There have been good signs in all our games this season but probably not enough as far as I’m concerned. We’re obviously having a few issues in terms of managing games but that’s on all of us and we need to resolve those issues.”
