Why Gary Neville wants Chelsea to beat Liverpool

Gary Neville, in quotes recorded by the Metro, has said that he wants Chelsea to beat Liverpool

The former Manchester United defender explained exactly why he was keen for the Blues – whom he has no particular affection for – to beat the Reds – whom he likes even less.

“Liverpool have been playing title-winning football for 18 months and it would be nice to see them drop points,” the famous right back said.

“Not for personal reasons, but to actually see City and Liverpool drop points, it would make it more of a dramatic season where teams can get points of each other. That’s what’s made the Premier League famous all around the world,” he went on.

It’s an understandable viewpoint. The last year of the Premier League has seen utter Man City and Liverpool domination. Everyone is getting bored of it, especially when it comes to City, who won the year before that too.

So while Liverpool would be more of a breath of fresh air, they are winning every week too, and have a big lead in the league already. It will be more fun for everyone to see them lose. Let’s hope both Jurgen Klopp’s side and Pep Guardiola’s side both end up dropping plenty this season.
