Frank Lampard says key man has a “chance” to appear in Champions League clash

The Sun are reporting that Frank Lampard has given an update on the fitness of N’Golo Kante, saying the midfielder has a “chance” of being able to play in next week’s Champions League fixture with Lille.

The midfielder has popped up for a couple of games here and there, but hasn’t really

“He’s had a difficult pre-season – difficult for us but mainly for him – to get going, because of the break up of his pre-season with the injury he carried over from last year,” Lampard said after the win over Brighton, which saw Kante out of the matchday squad.

“I wasn’t going to risk it today. He’s got a chance for Lille,” the Chelsea coach went on.

In a way that’s good news, but we’d also rather the Frenchman was rested if there’s any chance it will aggravate what is clearly an ongoing medical situation. We’d rather go out of the Champions League group and keep the Frenchman in top physical condition for the rest of his career, if it really comes down to it.

Hopefully missing another game or two will allow him to return as a full force later this season.
